![]() ![]() With that said, seeing the disparate colour explosion of Cloud Cuckoo Land or the saloons and gunslinging of the Wild West levels still does plenty to impress and as always, environments are littered with LEGO objects for you to smash and explode into a zillion pieces which is always enjoyable. So seeing things from this fixed angle does dull the impact somewhat and it’s often difficult to decipher depth or angles which can make some of the platforming tricky. Using the same isometric perspective seen in things like LEGO Marvel’s Super Heroes and LEGO The Hobbit, the graphics in The LEGO Movie Videogame do little to impress although the inspired source material does do a great deal to alleviate it. So getting to spend time with Batman, Metalbeard, Unikitty and Wyldstyle again here was a fun journey that just convinced me I really should watch the movie again! ![]() Some of that is lost in chopping it down into a 5-6 hour game, but a lot of it gets through. It’s an amusing tale that cleverly mixes the LEGO modus operandi of build whatever you want with both likeable characters and ties to the real world application of the toys. Of course, this is the abridged version if a plot that sees an ordinary worker named Emmett get swept up in an adventure to collect a relic called the ‘Piece of Resistance’ and stop the evil Lord Business from wiping out the Master Builders who have escaped his control. I was quite pleased to see that the team at TT Fusion not only took the main story beats to ensure that you’re able to follow what’s going on even if you haven’t seen the film, but also some of the funnier moments that I’d forgotten until playing the game (such as Unikitty distracting a board room by babbling “business business business, numbers… is this working?”). The Videogame tie in follows this story exactly, taking clips from the film and interspersing them with playable segments. The LEGO Movie was a surprise hit when it released in 2014, combining an original plot set in a world of mini-figures alongside some familiar faces and a neat twist. Another isometric brawler take on the LEGO formula that keeps the liveliness of the film in tact, but feels just a little too shallow to be a worthwhile time. ![]()
